South Carolina’s Newest Psychiatric Treatment Facility
October 29, 2025
WBG’s Construction Team continues to support South Carolina’s efforts to strengthen the community’s health & care with its involvement in the William R. Byars Jr. Treatment Center, a state of the art psychiatric treatment facility located in the Columbia, South Carolina area.
Facility That Fills Critical Needs
- The 24 bed psychiatric treatment facility is designed specifically for justice involved youth that are currently in South Carolina’s juvenile justice system. Addressing the unprecedented demand for trauma mental health care.
- 24,000 square foot center is scheduled to be opened for service in late 2025, with the capabilities of expanding to a 32 bed facility if need be.
- This project was put in motion to meet the area’s current needs. Roughly 70% of justice involved youth experience diagnosable mental health disorders, buy many have been unable to get necessary access to effective treatment in the region.
Building Environments That Produce Healing
WBG’s exceptional background in providing healthcare facilities with the needed HVAC & plumbing, Guimarin was selected as the mechanical subcontractor for this state agency project.
WBG is accountable for the installation and commissioning of the HVAC, ductwork, piping & plumbing infrastructure throughout the facility. Our team’s work will ensure both;
- Comfortable living and working environments for the patients rooms, treatment/communal areas, and work stations.
- Installed systems supporting the facilities safety and operational reliability. Especially under the building codes requirements for facilities as this.

The work completed goes far beyond just bricks and steel, it about being part of a building that will uplift community members and create lasting impacts to the community for the time to come. Having been selected to be a part of this treatment center reflects our deep commitment to supporting the community within South Carolina’s most vulnerable youth. In providing our skillset to a facility focused on rehabilitation not incarceration, we are proud to put our name on this project in providing a safe, supportive environment where healing & recovery can start.
