WBG Awarded Two Merit Awards for Excellence in Construction
December 29, 2014
ABC Carolinas held its 2014 Excellence in Construction Awards in Charlotte on November 20th. W. B. Guimarin submitted two projects for review, and both were awarded the sole Merit Awards for their respective categories.
South Carolina State Museum Observatory, Planetarium, and 4D Theater
Merit Award – Specialty Contractor, $1-2 Million
This 70,000 sf renovation and addition project included a new cafeteria and state of the art planetarium at the State Museum’s landmark location where the Broad and Saluda rivers converge to form the Congaree in Columbia, South Carolina. This expansion project included not only new mechanical systems for the additional structure, but also mechanical upgrades in the existing historic mill building. Work on the existing mechanical systems had to be done while the museum was in operation; W. B. Guimarin has vast experience in working in both operating facilities and historic facilities, and the project was executed with success, accomplishing both our company and the customer’s goals. Greenville-Spartanburg Airport Terminal Improvement Program Enabling
Merit Award – Specialty Contractor, Under $1 Million
The $125 Million Terminal Improvement Program for GSP Airport was broken down into multiple phases of construction to limit interruptions to passenger travel and to ensure that all aviation safety and national security operations could continue throughout construction. The Enabling project moved baggage claims, ticket offices, administration offices, and passenger entry to the terminals. Airport operation was never interrupted, and W. B. Guimarin was selected to perform three additional contracts including the main expansion project, or Core, which is currently under construction. For more information about GSP, please click here.
