Critical Steam System Upgrade Completed
July 9, 2026
When industrial facilities schedule planned shutdowns, every hour matters before the line goes back on. These narrow maintenance windows provide the opportunity to complete critical infrastructure improvements all the while minimizing impacts to production. Success depends on careful planning long before crews ever arrive on site.
Recently, WBG’s Team completed a steam condensate system replacement at one of South Carolina’s manufacturing facilities during a scheduled production shutdown. Prior to mobilizing, WBG’s fabrication team spent more than a week preparing the new piping assemblies in advance, allowing field personnel to maximize the limited outage window. Once the shutdown began, crews installed and tied in new 2-inch and 3-inch hand welded steam piping designed to operate between 115 and 125 PSI, replacing an aging condensate pump that had experienced significant leakage.
Beyond replacing aging equipment, the project focused on improving overall system performance. The steam powered condensate pump captures and returns condensate back into the plant’s steam system, allowing valuable heated water to be recycled instead of wasted. This process helps reduce water consumption, improve energy efficiency, and support more reliable manufacturing operations delivering measurable value long after installation is complete.
Projects like these demonstrate what trusted mechanical solutions look like in practice. By combining detailed preplanning, inhouse fabrication, and coordinated execution, WBG helps South Carolina manufacturers reduce operational costs, improve system reliability, and keep critical facilities performing at their best.
