Schattdecor
Lexington, South Carolina
The Challenge
As production demand increased, Schattdecor outgrew its original facility and acquired an additional building nearby to expand operations. The new space required a new mechanical infrastructure to support both the manufacturing processes & the environmental control.
Requirements included:
- Process cooling for printing rollers
- Climate control for production areas due to adhesives and printing materials
- High pressure steam for adhesive (glue) melting
- Compressed air and nitrogen piping integration
- A scalable and reliable system with redundancy
The Solution
Working directly with both Schattdecor and an engineering partner, Vista Engineering, WBG was an integral part of the new design and phased mechanical solutions to meet the facility’s operational needs.
Phase 1: Chiller Plant & Cooling Systems
The first phase focused on establishing a robust cooling infrastructure, including:
- Installation of an air cooled chiller plant for both process and comfort cooling.
- Integration of climate control systems to maintain production conditions.
- Deployment of an outdoor mounted air rotation unit, eliminating the need for structural modifications to the building.
This approach allowed for efficient cooling without disrupting the integrity of the newly acquired facility.
Phase 2: Boiler Plant Installation
The second phase addressed process heating requirements with:
- Installation of high pressure steam boilers to support adhesive melting processes.
- System design aligned with production demands for now and in the foreseeable future.
Controls & Integration
A Trane control system was installed to unify operations, providing management of the chiller plant and air rotation systems for improved efficiency & monitoring.
Additional Infrastructure
Our work at Schattdecor also included:
- Installation of compressed air and nitrogen piping throughout the facility
- HVAC upfit completed within a few months to meet production timelines
Our ability to directly work with both the owner and engineering team was critical to the meet the needs of this facility. By designing a flexible, phased solution, with built in redundancy, we ensured that Schattdecor’s facility could scale efficiently while maintaining consistent production performance. WBG Service Team continues to be another trusted advisor within our group in providing proactive service & support for the sites mechanical systems.
