The Challenge
With the low country regions aggressive population growth increasing year after year, Roper St. Francis set forth to expand their footprint in the region to provide exceptional healthcare services to the Summerville region. The answer was developing a 45k sq. ft. outpatient facility that would encompass a 24/7 emergency area, advanced diagnostic imaging center, specialized physician offices, and an ambulatory surgical service center under one roof. The project required a mechanical contractor that was highly versed in coordinating the necessary mechanical, plumbing, sheet metal work, process piping, and medical gas systems work that met the strict guidelines and standards of todays healthcare construction.
The Solution
WBG’s worked under the general contractor Trident Construction as well as DWG Consulting Engineers in a Design/Assist approach for the mechanical side to this project. Our team provided the installation of the HVAC, plumbing, medical gas (oxygen & nitrogen), and vacuum system that will support the medical office buildings diverse clinical spaces, as well as the ductwork and controls. The project also included the installation of a dedicated MRI chiller system to support the advanced diagnostic imaging equipment that will ensure consistent cooling required for uninterrupted operation. Air cooled chillers paired with rooftop air handling units were selected to provide reliable & efficient climate control while also meeting the unique requirements of emergency care, surgical suites, imaging spaces, and medical offices throughout. This project demonstrates WBG’s ability to deliver on complex healthcare mechanical systems by providing our expertise, coordination, and execution required to support critical healthcare environments.
