Cherokee County Courthouse
Gaffney, South Carolina
WBG’s Special Projects Team completed a vital HVAC upgrade project at the Cherokee County Courthouse in South Carolina’s upstate region. This project demonstrates our expertise in commercial HVAC project management, especially in dealing with a historic building.
After decades of reliable service, with one unit impressively reaching 42 years of operation, the courthouse’s HVAC systems were due for an upgrade to ensure optimal climate control and energy efficiency. Our team is replacing outdated package units and transitioning a 5-ton split system to a modern package unit installed on the roof. By removing the existing air handler from the attic, this upgrade centralized all of the HVAC service components to one location, streamlining maintenance and improving system accessibility.
Given the courthouse’s historic status, WBG’s Mark Wilson navigated the permitting process to ensure compliance with South Carolina’s historic preservation codes. This careful planning guarantees that the upgraded HVAC system meets modern performance standards while respecting the building’s architectural integrity.
