The Challenge
Charter Next Generation’s facility demands process cooling, humidity control, compressed air, and robust HVAC systems necessary for both sustained production quality and creature comfort for their employees within. Scaling ones production to meet their needs required advanced mechanical solutions capable of supporting both the production floor and their employees from undue heat from within. Maintaining proper building pressurization to ensure excess humidity was kept out of the facility was essential to their overall product quality during production. Having the ability to provide a solution that they could easily scale the plants overall cooling capacity in the years to come if their manufacturing needs changed.
The Solution
WBG’s Design/Build Team engineered many mechanical solutions that combined both HVAC & process cooling into a single expandable chiller plant for their manufacturing facility. Also incorporating a dedicated outdoor air system capable of conditioning 90k CFM of outside air down to 48 degrees, WBG’s also was responsible for the design & installation of chilled water and process piping, additional fan coils on each level to keep air cooling accessible, and a compressed air system. As production increased at the facility, WBG successfully grew the plants overall cooling capacity from 1,000 tons to 2,000 tons without changing the overall design. In the end, WBG helped improve performance while also supporting Charter Next’s long term growth strategy at their Blythewood, SC site.
