Apprentices in the plumbing and piping field will review plans and drawings to determine plumbing system layouts and install piping systems according to project specifications. Secure supports and hangers using hand and power tools, assemble and install pipes, valves, and fittings, and install various plumbing fixtures. Additional responsibilities include measuring, cutting, and preparing pipes for installation, digging and backfilling trenches, cutting, and soldering copper tubing, grooving and threading pipes, fusing and solvent-welding plastic pipes, and help assisting pressure testing and inspecting plumbing systems for leaks and necessary repairs.
Apprentices working in sheet metal ductwork will read and interpret blueprints for duct installation, fabricate, assemble, and install sheet metal ductwork, and measure, cut, and bend sheet metal materials. They will use hand and power tools for assembly and installation, install supports and hangers for duct systems, and seal ductwork to ensure energy efficiency and proper function.
HVAC Service & Projects apprentices will assist in the installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC systems. Responsibilities include inspecting and troubleshooting HVAC units, performing routine maintenance such as filter changes and cleaning components, handling refrigerants safely, reading and interpreting schematics and technical manuals, and using diagnostic equipment to assess system performance.
