1903: William B. Guimarin moves to Columbia from Atlanta to work on the National Loan & Exchange Bank building. Now known as the Barringer Building, this 12-story building was Columbia’s first skyscraper and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
1926: W. B. Guimarin installs the first air conditioning system in the city of Columbia.
1937: Mr. Guimarin retires and sells W. B. Guimarin & Company to Edmund Rhett Heyward, his former banker and bookkeeper.
1947: Mr. E.R. Heyward’s son, Albert R. Heyward, takes over W.B. Guimarin & Co.
1979: Mr. A. R. Heyward sells this business to his son, Carroll, and his nephew, Church Powers.
2003: W. B. Guimarin & Co., Inc. celebrates its 100th anniversary.
Today: W. B. Guimarin continues to flourish under the leadership of Carroll Heyward and Church Powers. The 4th generation of the Heyward family is represented by Mr. Heyward’s two adult children, Sidney and Carroll Jr., who act as project managers.
