Position Description:
Department: Preconstruction Services
W.B. Guimarin & Company, Inc. is looking for someone who is interested in a career in mechanical contracting. We are interviewing for an entry level position in preconstruction services.
The primary responsibility of this position is to learn and then produce detailed material and labor estimates for the preparation of bid proposals.
Secondly, it will require good communication skills to explain details of the proposal to potential customers.
Lastly, over time the position will require an understanding of the many systems and processes that we sell to our building customers.
This position requires a person who looks for a planned and orderly place to do their work. They need to be comfortable with change and variety, as the work we pursue is very seldom, if ever, identical. This position will require a calm and relaxed personality. You must be deliberate and consistent in your approach to work.
We will require a careful and exacting person who is very accurate and systematic in what they do.
Your first three years will be spent learning the estimating software, developing takeoff skills, becoming familiar with our customers, and learning our vendors and the systems they sell. Every six months you will receive a 5 percent (5%) raise provided you are progressing at a sufficient pace. You can expect a formal evaluation of your progress every six months with day to day mentoring and coaching.
At the end of the three years, you will also be given the opportunity, provided you have mastered the basic estimating skills, to be an assistant project manager. This will be a necessary skill to master to clearly understand the process of construction and hear the sounds and see the sights of our construction. During this time, as you learn your project management skills, you will be expected to continue to estimate projects.
During all of your tenure at W.B. Guimarin & Company, you will be expected to continue your education. Some of the continuing education will be trade specific and some will be broader. Regardless, it is a clear expectation for your continued advancement.
At the end of five or six years, should you wish to continue in preconstruction activities, you will be provided selling skills so that on many of our projects you will be able to sit with the customer and tell the story of our proposals, from the type of system and specifications, to the detail of its figures and expected outcomes.
